Dental exams and check-ups for a lifetime of healthy smiles!

The path to a lasting, healthy, and attractive smile starts with regular dental exams and check-ups. Our dentist at All Smiles Dental Studio, Dr. Shahrokh, typically recommends visits to our office in Encinitas, California twice a year. If, however, you are at risk of developing oral conditions, Dr. Shahrokh will recommend more frequent visits. So, we can monitor your mouth, conditions or problems, and associated treatments as needed. We’ve highlighted what to expect during routine check-ups and therapies that may be recommended to resolve periodontal disease (gum disease).

Comprehensive exams

During each exam, Dr. Shahrokh will assess the health of the head, neck, and oral cavity (mouth) to detect any problems or issues that may exist. He conducts both visual and tactile checks. Tools such as digital x-rays may be used to pinpoint the source of discomfort or other symptoms that may be present. Our mix of considerable knowledge and diagnostic tools may also be used to catch and intervene quickly with minor issues before they turn into big problems.

We also regularly screen for pre-cancers and cancerous lesions. Dr. Shahrokh examines your head, neck, and mouth during oral cancer screenings. He looks for discolored patches of tissues, lumps, bumps, and other suspicious areas. We provide patients with peace of mind; issues are addressed as soon as possible. Rarely do we find potential problems that require a referral to a specialist who can fully diagnose and provide the care you need right away.

Dental cleanings

As part of All Smiles Dental Studio’s hygiene program, we offer basic cleanings during every dental check-up/exam appointment. The standard cleaning, also known as “prophylaxis” or “prophy,” is recommended for individuals with otherwise healthy teeth and gums. Our skilled, gentle hygienists conduct a light scale and polish above the gum line. This process helps remove bacteria, plaque, stubborn tartar, and surface stains. Fluoride varnish is also applied as a preventive measure to keep the teeth strong.

Gingivitis treatment may be recommended for patients with existing gum disease. At this stage, the disease process is limited to the gum area (and is completely reversible). Plaque, calculus (tartar), and stains are primarily removed from above and below the gum line. Scaling and root planing (SRP) is indicated for patients with more severe gum disease. At this stage, there has been some attachment loss between the teeth, bone, and gums around the teeth. SRP removes as much bacteria as possible and helps get gum tissue back to a healthy state. Deep cleaning with laser treatment may be recommended. Patients generally return every three to four months for periodontal maintenance. The pockets that form between the teeth and gums are flushed out with antimicrobial agents to kill bacteria.

Consistent regular oral care maintains the health of your teeth and the gums and bone that support your teeth.
