Invisible, removable, comfortable teeth straightening with Invisalign® clear aligners

Patients with formerly crowded, crooked, or gapped teeth are “all smiles” with our modern alternative to metal braces. Our dentist at All Smiles Dental Studio in Encinitas, California, Dr. Shahrokh, has been trained extensively on clear aligners. Invisalign® is one of the most popular clear aligner systems available today. Dr. Shahrokh understands the art and science behind Invisalign®. He looks forward to recommending the best course of action to achieve optimal results for your smile.

About Invisalign®

Invisalign® uses clear aligners to reposition the teeth. These aligners are made from transparent (see-through) plastic. When they slip over your teeth, the aligners are not visible when you smile. So, they are considered a cosmetic alternative to braces made of gray- or silver-colored metal brackets and wires.

You can take out the Invisalign® aligners. They are not fixed or secured to your teeth (like traditional braces). Be sure to wear the aligners as directed by Dr. Shahrokh. They should only be removed when eating, drinking, or brushing and flossing your teeth.

Due to these and other features, Invisalign® is a comfortable way to straighten your teeth. It is also effective because Invisalign® uses the same principles as braces to move the teeth. The aligners place gentle yet consistent force on the teeth. When worn as instructed, aligners gradually straighten the teeth. Straight teeth not only look pleasing to the eye, but they are also easier to clean effectively.

Candidates for Invisalign®

Dr. Shahrokh will determine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign® following a consultation at our office. Thanks to advancements in the Invisalign® design over time, it is an appropriate treatment for both minor cosmetic cases and more complex “bite-related” issues. Treatable conditions include:

  • General crowding
  • Overbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses a series of plastic aligners to align your teeth and bite. Each aligner is fabricated using digital images of your dentition, providing a snug fit. Best of all, Invisalign trays are transparent, making the aligners virtually invisible when wearing them. Not many people will recognize you are undergoing orthodontic treatment — they will only see your smile becoming straighter and more attractive.

What orthodontic issues does Invisalign solve?

Invisalign trays align your smile by applying constant but gentle pressure on your teeth. Invisalign is an ideal treatment for:

– Gaps between teeth
– Underbites
– Crossbites
– Crooked teeth
– Open bites
– Overjets
– Overcrowded teeth
– Overbites

What should I expect from Invisalign treatment?

The first step is an in-person consultation with Dr. Ali Shahrokh. During this initial exam, the dentist will examine your bite, teeth, and overall oral health to ensure you are eligible for Invisalign treatment. Next, we’ll digitally scan your mouth to preview your smile before and after treatment. Our Invisalign lab also uses your digital scans to create your aligners.

When you receive your aligners within one to two weeks, you must wear them 20-22 hours daily, only removing them when eating or cleaning your teeth. You’ll also wear your aligners for 7-10 days before switching to the next set in line that moves your teeth closer to perfection.

Will Invisalign affect my speech?

For the first few days, your natural speech will change as you get used to wearing aligners. However, for many patients, any speech issues will be resolved within a week or less.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign offers numerous benefits over traditional braces, including:

– Discreet orthodontic treatment
– The removable nature of aligners means undisrupted oral hygiene and the ability to eat all foods
– Comfortable treatment
– No metal allergy
– Faster treatment
– Predictable treatments, thanks to 3D imaging technology
– Fewer dental visits

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

When worn as directed by your Encinitas, California, dentist, Invisalign is usually faster than traditional braces in most cases. The average treatment time for Invisalign is 12-18 months, although mild cases can be completed within a year. While Invisalign is fast, you must wear the aligners 20-22 hours daily, only removing them when eating or cleaning teeth.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

If you have worn braces in the past, you are well aware of the sharp edges and protruding wires that irritate your cheeks and gums. Invisalign is created from smooth, flexible plastic that’s gentle on oral structures.

However, since Invisalign involves moving your teeth from their current positions, expect some pain and tenderness in the first few days. Nevertheless, this discomfort lasts only a few days and is easily managed with home remedies and pain medications.

How Do I Maintain My Invisalign Aligners?

Maintaining your aligners is pretty straightforward. You should brush your trays with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse them in lukewarm water — never use hot water as it can warp the plastic. Store your aligners in a clean, dry container when not in use.

After every meal, you must brush your teeth before re-inserting your trays to remove food particles that can stain your aligners. If you lose or break your aligners, contact your Invisalign provider immediately to ensure you stay on track with your treatment plan.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

Invisalign cost is comparable with that of conventional braces. The average cost of Invisalign is between $3,000 and $5,000, although the cost varies based on the severity of the orthodontic case and compliance with wearing aligners. Since prices vary, consult your Encinitas, California, Invisalign provider for an accurate cost.

Like braces, many insurance plans cover part of the Invisalign cost. We also offer an in-house payment plan to ensure costs don’t bar you from getting the dental care you deserve.

Will Invisalign Affect My Diet?

Not at all! The removable nature of Invisalign trays allows you to enjoy all your favorite meals. You simply remove the aligners and wear them back after enjoying your meal.
